Paralegals

Overview
Certified paralegals play an integral role in the success of the Office of the Attorney General. Located in every division of the office, paralegals perform various duties, including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Preparation and processing of various pleadings and filings
  • Timely documentation of all activities for files
  • Opening, closing and tracking cases and assignment of cases
  • Preparing agreed findings and judgments (when applicable)
  • Creating and updating various automated reports
  • Assist in discovery, attend meetings and conferences
  • Communicate with appropriate governmental agencies
  • Maintain hearing schedules (when applicable)
It is necessary for all paralegals to be proficient with Microsoft Office and Westlaw research programs, as well as all other applicable software in use by the particular division in which they work.

Professional Development
Whether you’re looking to further your paralegal career or obtain excellent legal experience, our office will help you achieve that goal. We have many paralegals that have made a career of this office and several others that started as a paralegal, and then obtained their J.D. degree and are now Deputy Attorneys within the office. Regardless of your objectives, we’re confident that you will grow personally and professionally as an employee with this office.

Evaluations
As a paralegal, you will receive feedback on a regular basis, and will be advised to ask all questions necessary to ensure that the citizens of the State of Indiana are best served by this office. In addition to this feedback, you will receive a performance appraisal at the completion of six months of employment, and then annually thereafter.
